A briefing was held for parish councils during the week to discuss how this event will affect the local area. 70,000 leaflets were distributed but some residents do not seem to have received one. Further information will be coming out in the near future – this time from our ward councillors. Shadwell Parish Council will pass on any further details we receive.
We would like to emphasise that neither the local parish councils nor our ward councillors have had any influence on the route or road closures.
We understand that there are 2,700 people taking part in the event. The cyclists will be setting of from Roundhay Park, three at a time, every ten seconds.
We are told that Shadwell residents in the Ash Hills, Stricklands and Croftons, will be able to exit Shadwell via Ash Hill Lane and then right up to Slaid Hill. Shadwell Lane is open to the Ring Road. Wigton Lane partially closed. Those residents from Strickland Crescent down to Shadwell Bridge will not be able to get out. We are not sure about residents from on Main Street from Hobberley Lane but probably they will be stuck as well. No information was received regarding Hobberley Lane/Charville residents, but the cyclists will be coming down Hobberley from Winn Moor Lane, so access will be very difficult. Councillors will try and find out about this.
It is envisaged that the A58, although officially open, will be virtually impassable, as there are two crossing points for cyclists – one at Carr Lane, and one in Bardsey. Additionally, as many of our surrounding lanes will be closed, traffic will be heavy on those roads not affected.
An interactive Google map more details should be available shortly.
